KATHMANDU: The 24th memorial ceremony of the late King Birendra was held on Monday at the Shalik in Jawalakhel, organized by the Late King Birendra Peace Foundation.
The event featured floral tributes and various programs to honor the former monarch’s legacy.
Speaking at the ceremony, Foundation Chairperson Shivahari Khanal emphasized the need for collective commitment and cooperation to fulfill King Birendra’s vision of declaring Nepal a peace zone.
He highlighted the increasing political instability and polarization in the country, along with growing unrest and insecurity. In this context, he noted, King Birendra’s peace campaign remains highly relevant and essential.
Khanal underscored that the continuation of King Birendra’s peace mission, especially amidst rising conflicts and wars globally, could pave the way for lasting peace.
He called upon everyone to follow the example set by King Birendra, who was not only a peace advocate but also a proponent of development.
The Foundation’s primary goals include advancing King Birendra’s peace initiatives, embracing development concepts, and promoting decentralization by abolishing provinces.
Chairperson Khanal further expressed concern that even after 24 years since the palace massacre, the case remains shrouded in secrecy and mystery.
He urged the government to identify the perpetrators and bring the truth to the Nepali people.
