KATHMANDU: In the past 24 hours, a total of 2,489 drivers have been penalized for violating traffic rules in the Kathmandu Valley, generating revenue of Rs 2.27 million for the state treasury.

According to the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office, 49 drivers were caught driving under the influence of alcohol, while 258 were penalized for unauthorized ride-sharing activities.

Similarly, 170 drivers were fined for violating traffic signals and 112 for overspeeding.

In addition, 325 drivers were punished for failing to follow lane discipline, 64 for honking in restricted zones, and 121 for parking vehicles on sidewalks.

Another 62 drivers were booked for picking up and dropping off passengers in undesignated areas, while 1,328 others were booked for various traffic rule violations.

Traffic authorities have urged drivers to follow regulations to ensure road safety and avoid penalties strictly.
