KATHMANDU: Gagan Kumar Thapa, Secretary General of the ruling Nepali Congress, has accused Rabi Lamichhane, the President of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), of being involved in cooperative fraud and has called for an immediate investigation by the government.

During the House of Representatives meeting on Tuesday, Thapa urged Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak to investigate Lamichhane, who allegedly embezzled millions from cooperatives while serving as Home Minister.

Thapa emphasized that Lamichhane should be investigated based on evidence presented by Lekhak, who, as a former opposition MP, had previously revealed that Lamichhane received substantial amounts from Pokhara’s Suryadarshan Cooperative.

Thapa stressed that regardless of one’s power or position, the government must prove who someone really is by bringing them into the investigation.

He also reiterated that the government should not ignore issues such as the Giribandhu Tea-estate scandal and the Bhutanese refugee case, which were highlighted during the opposition period but are seemingly overlooked now.

Additionally, Thapa pressed the government to ensure the collection of funds from the Dedicated Tank Line to prevent state embezzlement.
