KATHMANDU: During a recent meeting of the House of Representatives, MPs expressed concern over the safety of air travel and urged the government to address issues within civil aviation.

In an emergency session, MP Sovita Gautam stressed the need for immediate legislation to ensure the safety of air travel in the country. “There are serious problems in the aviation sector.

All relevant bodies should be urged to act, and we need to expedite the legislation to regulate this sector,” Gautam said.

MP Bina Lama highlighted that both air and road travel have become increasingly unsafe recently, drawing the government’s attention to the issue.

“Not only is the road unsafe, but the previously secure air travel sector has also become risky.”

MP Birendra Prasad Mahto drew attention to the case of 20-year-old Arun Sharma from Kalyanpur-3 in Siraha District, who has been missing from Kathmandu for the past 35 days without any trace.

Mahto also raised concerns about riverbank erosion threatening settlements in the Terai region and called for flood protection measures.
