SC orders submission of documents in Chaudhary vs. Shrestha legal battle

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has mandated the submission of documentation in the legal dispute brought forward by Resham Chaudhary, leader of the Nagarik Unmukti Party (NUP), against party Chair Ranjita Shrestha and the Election Commission (EC).

During the hearing of Chaudhary’s plea, a division bench led by Justices Balkrishna Dhakal and Binod Sharma ordered that all relevant documentation be provided.

Chaudhary, who secure the presidency during the first general convention in Tikapur, had his legitimacy challenged by the Commission because of an ongoing criminal prosecution against him.

Following the EC’s reluctance to accept his leadership and the reinstatement of Chairperson Shrestha, Chaudhary filed a legal challenge, naming the EC and Ranjita as defendants in the case.
