KATHMANDU: Dr. Shekhar Koirala, a leader of the Nepali Congress, criticized the government for its lack of sensitivity in addressing the fires raging across various regions of the country.

Despite widespread reports of substantial damage to people’s property due to the fires circulating on social media, Dr. Koirala accused the government of failing to respond adequately.

Dr. Koirala has expressed concerns over the government’s response to the recent wildfires that have inflicted both physical and human losses across various parts of the country.

He highlighted the urgent need for investigation into the causes of the fires and emphasized the importance of effective prevention and mitigation measures.

He writes, “This year, wildfires have claimed Nepali lives and destroyed property worth billions. Some areas have been completely devastated while others remain on the brink,” stated Koirala. He questioned the government’s lack of sensitivity, asking, “Where have we gone wrong in prevention and mitigation efforts? Is it in policy or in practice? Why is the government so indifferent?”
