KATHMANDU: Deepak Giri, a member of the House of Representatives, has said that the country is in a state of educational crisis.

During Tuesday’s meeting of the Legislative Parliament, he raised concerns about the drastic reduction in the number of students taking the Secondary Education Examination (SEE) compared to a decade ago.

He questioned the whereabouts of the remaining students, as there were over 9 million enrolled in class 1 ten years prior, yet only 5 million are currently appearing for the SEE. This significant discrepancy prompted him to inquire about the fate of the missing students.

He highlighted that out of 5 lakh students participating in the Secondary Education Examination (SEE), only a fraction remains compared to the staggering enrollment of nine and a half million children ten years ago in class 1, as reported by the Ministry of Education.

Expressing concern over the missing students and their lack of progression to the 10th standard, he emphasized the urgent need to address this educational crisis.

With 80 percent of students attending public schools, he stressed the imperative of enhancing the quality of education in community schools. This alarming scenario, he asserted, reflects the true state of the country’s education sector.
