KATHMANDU: The Election Commission has announced that nearly 80 million rupees will be spent to conduct the upcoming by-elections.

The commission stated that this budget is necessary to manage polling centers, organize voting, collect ballot boxes, conduct vote counting, and ensure security.

On Wednesday, discussions were held with the Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Krishna Hari Pushkar, regarding the expenses of the by-elections.

Pushkar informed that there is a lack of budget in the Ministry of Finance and managing resources poses a challenge.

Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Thapaliya stated, “Although all preparations for the election are in place, additional budget is necessary to complete tasks from voting to vote counting.”

By-elections are scheduled to be held on Baisakh 15 (April 28) in Ilam constituency number 2 and Bajhang 1 (1).

Following the demise of elected representative Sabha Member Subas Nembang from Ilam constituency number 2, the seat remains vacant.
