‘International Mayor Award’ to Renu Dahal in UK

KATHMANDU: Renu Dahal, Mayor of Bharatpur Metropolitan City, has been presented with the ‘International Mayor Award’.

The honor was presented to her last night in the British Parliament’s ‘House of Commons’.

Renu received the prize in a special event attended by high-profile figures such as London Mayor Sadiq Khan and Ameenah Gurib-Fakim, Mauritius’ first female president. On that occasion, Mayor Khan received the Local Government Award, while President Fakim received the International Woman of the Year Award.

The Political and Public Life Award in 2024 has been granted to 24 persons from various nations, including the United Kingdom, who are well-known in their disciplines.

This year, the recipients of the award are Former Prime Minister of the UK, Oliver Dowden, Deputy Leader of the main opposition Labour Party Angela Rayner, Minister for Children and Education Robert Halfon, International Trade Minister Gareth Thomas, former Indian Minister Suresh Prabhu, former President of Mauritius Fakim, and Welsh State Parliament Member Natasha Asgar were among those who received the award this year, according to Dahal.

After receiving the award, she said that she was proud to be honored by the high political leadership.

Mayor Dahal has also invited the British high officials to visit Bharatpur in the year 2024.
