KATHMANDU: United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres has said that Nepal should receive the funds allocated for climate adaptation.

He stated this to the media in Pokhara on Tuesday, following his observation tour to Annapurna Base Camp.

Secretary General Guterres stressed that monies set aside for climate adaptation should be distributed to countries like as Nepal that have suffered as a result of climate change. He asked other countries to help Nepal, which has suffered as a result of climate change. Mountains and glaciers, he believes, should be maintained in order to mitigate the effects of climate change.

He said, ‘We have to protect these wonderful mountains and these wonderful snow rivers. It is necessary to support Nepal and other countries like Nepal which have become victims due to climate change. Landslides have occurred in many parts due to climate change. I will appeal to the international community that this has had a profoundly negative impact on many communities. There are also several funds for protecting vulnerable communities and for climate adaptation. These funds are created to reduce the damage and benefit the affected people. It should be used.’
