Nepal to play two teams before the World Cup qualifiers

KATHMANDU: Nepal is going to play two ‘warm up’ matches before the ICC World Cup cricket qualifiers to be held in Zimbabwe next month.

Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has informed that Nepal will play warm-up matches against UAE and Oman. Both these groups are recognized as ODIs.

Both these matches will be played in Zimbabwe.

Nepal will play UAE on Jestha 30 (June 13) and Oman on Jestha 32 (June 15) in Harare, the capital of Zimbabwe.

Nepal will play the first match in the World Cup qualifier against host Zimbabwe on Ashar 3 (June 18).

The hosts Zimbabwe and Nepal will face each other in the opening match. There are two games on the opening day.

The second match against America is set for Ashar 5 (June 20), and the third match against the West Indies is slated for Ashar 7 (June 22). Nepal will play the Netherlands in the last group stage match on Ashar 9 (June 24).

The Ashar 3 (June 18) match versus Zimbabwe will also be Nepal’s first internationally recognized match against a Test nation.The World Cup selection process will involve ten countries.

The 10 competing teams are split into two groups.

West Indies, the Netherlands, and America are in Group A, together with Nepal and host Zimbabwe. Sri Lanka, Ireland, Scotland, Oman, and the United Arab Emirates make up Group B.

In the group stage, each country will play four matches. The top three teams from each group will advance to the Super Six. Teams from one group will compete against teams from the other group in the Super Six.

The top two teams from the Super Six will go to the ICC One-Day International World Cup in India in October.
