JANAKPURDHAM: A customer’s 9 lakh rupees was stolen from Machhapuchchhre Bank, which is located in Rautahat’s Chandrapur Municipality-4.

The funds were taken from Rameshwar Rai Yadav of Brindaban Municipality-3 of Rautahat’s Machhapuchchhre Bank account number 750065383800014. When he went to replace the cheque at the Chandrapur branch on Sunday, he discovered that the money had been taken from the bank account.

On Thursday, Yadav deposited three Nepal Bank Limited cheques (12 lakh 20 thousand rupees) into his account at the Machhapuchchhre Bank Chandrapur branch for clearing. The message that the amount was deposited in the account was also sent to his mobile phone.

But on Sunday, when he went to the Chandrapur branch to withdraw Rs 8 lakh from the account, he grew irritated after hearing the employee’s statements. The staffs informed him that the account held only Rs 320,000. Then he began to probe.

After the customer Yadav discovered that the deposited amount was not in the account, he immediately met with branch manager Ramji Das. But branch manager Das refused to comment on how the money was stolen.

According to customer Yadav, branch manager Das responded carelessly that the hacker might have taken the money and that he should investigate it himself.

The customer Yadav and his fellow customers caused a scene at the Chandrapur branch after the bank refused to provide the bank statement as well. From 11 a.m. to late at night, they frequently surrounded the bank, claiming that bank personnel had collaborated to stole the money from the account.

Victims have petitioned the police for justice. DSP Eknarayan Koirala of the District Police Office Chandrapur stated that they are investigating a bank theft. ‘Everything is exposed via research,’ he remarked. All those implicated will face consequences.’

It is believed that the branch manager Das informed the police that he transferred money from the customer Yadav’s account to Citizen Bank and Sanima Bank using the mobile numbers 9860101022, 9801533542, 9825074400, and 9824255631.

The stolen money belongs to the brothers of Machhapuchchhre Bank industrialist Dr. Upendra Mahato and Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) MP Birendra Mahato.

Birendra resigned as chair of the bank’s board of directors after being elected as an MP. His brother, industrialist Dr. Upendra, currently serves as the bank’s chair of the board of directors.
