BIRATNAGAR: The Morang Merchant Association has objected to the Nepal Electricity Authority stopping power supply to enterprises in the Morang-Sunsari-Kathari industrial corridor due to various technical problems.

Due to previous COVID closures and the current situation of lack of liquidity, high bank interest rates, and other financial complications, the industry has reached a risky situation in which even essential electricity supply is uncomfortable for the industries that are operating.

According to the statement issued by the association, leading the industrial sector, which has become problematic due to insufficient, irregular, and unscheduled power cuts from the Authority in recent months, this association has demanded that the Authority provide uninterrupted power supply for regional offices and industrial areas connected to the grid, as well as a fixed schedule for power cuts.

In the case of the industry, the question has been raised immediately following the work conference held under our leadership as to whether the fact that the authority cut the electricity supply orally without written notice to industries that do not have capacitor banks or are not operating in the industry is a retaliation of this union’s protest program.

The association has requested that all concerned authorities, including the authorities, facilitate the supply of electricity, provide a fixed schedule of electricity cuts, give adequate time to the industries that have not been able to bring the capacitor bank into operation, avoid creating a threat/terror environment in the crisis-hit industries, and protect the jobs of thousands of workers working in the industry.
