KATHMANDU: Ashok Singh, the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), has resigned.

According to police sources, he resigned on Wednesday at the police headquarters.

Singh, the chief of the Sudupashchim State Police Office, was a candidate for the position of Additional Inspector General of Police (AIG). Singh resigned after his date of birth became a point of contention.

After Singh’s citizenship and age on the police roster differed, the police headquarters launched an internal investigation.

In the copy of citizenship certificate issued on 2042 Jestha 22 (4 June, 1985) submitted by Singh, his age is mentioned as 18 years.

According to the citizenship issued by District Administration Office, Kailali, his date of birth should be 2024.
