KATHMANDU: Climbing has come to a standstill after the road leading to Everest collapsed.

The main route to climb Mt Everest, Lhotse and Nupse came to a halt after the route collapsed in the Khumbu Icefall area.

Climbing activities have been halted after losing the path on Saturday night, approximately a distance of more than a hundred meters from the first campsite at an altitude of about 5,900 meters.

With the climbing activities stopped due to the issues in the climbing route, Sherpa footprints informed the contact official of the Sagarmatha Pollution Control Committee to immediately start trail construction.

The responsibility of constructing the route from the base camp to camp two has been assigned to the committee from the coordination meeting.

With the aim of reaching Camp Four, sixty or more climbers, along with the guide who had descended from the base camp on Saturday night, are expected to return to the base camp.

Guide Kunga Sherpa explained that once the trail is constructed, preparations will be made to resume climbing from Monday morning.
