Students’ organization in internal preparation for FSU elections

KATHMANDU: With Tribhuvan University (TU) announcing the date for the FSU elections, the students’ organization is also preparing internally. With the university has set a date for the FSU elections, which have been ongoing for a decade, the student organization has been busy with internal preparations. Student organizations are having election-related debates.

The Executive Council of the TU decided on Jan 6 to hold the FSU elections on March 19. The Chair of the Nepal Students’ Union, Dujang Sherpa, welcomed the university’s decision to hold self-education elections and stated that they are fully prepared. “We welcome the university’s decision to hold the FSU elections, which have not been held in a long time,” he said, adding that “now our organization is fully engaged in the FSU elections preparations.”

He stated that the FSU elections, which have not been held in a long time, will establish student rights. He stated that the university should consult with all student organizations before publishing the university’s schedule.

Pancha Singh, Chair of the ANNFSU (revolutionary), said that setting the date for the FSU elections is a positive step. He stated that his organization is preparing for the Swaviyu elections now that the date has been set. “Setting the date of the FSU elections, which have not been held in a long time, is a matter of happiness,” he said. She also stated that the election will guide the student movement toward democracy.

The decision is welcomed, according to Sudesh Parajuli, Chair of ANNFSU. He stated that the election should be carried out by organizing the class admission process and publishing the winners’ names.

The ANNFSU’s General Secretary, Samik Badal, stated that his organization is preparing for the election date. He stated that he decided to run in the FSU elections after meeting with central officials. “We are pleased with the decision to hold the FSU election as a means of developing leadership,” he said.

On Jan 5, the meeting of the University Student Welfare Council had recommended to the Executive Council of the University to hold the elections for the FSU on March 19.

Even though TU attempted to hold elections several times, it was not possible. For the past decade, FSU elections have not been held on campus. Elections every two years have not been held on a regular basis since 2065.

TU has 62 affiliated campuses and 1,040 affiliated campuses. In FSU elections, an age limit of 28 years and a mixed election system have been implemented.
