KATHMANDU: The impeachment recommendation committee, which was formed to look into the impeachment motion filed against suspended Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher JB Rana, has begun its work.

The committee meeting on Wednesday at Singh Darbar decided on the procedure and timeline for the investigation. The committee has directed the secretariat to present the committee’s procedure and agenda at the next meeting.

The committee members agreed at the meeting that the impeachment process should be completed as soon as possible. UML MP Krishna Bhakta Pokharel stated that work should be completed within one month. He claimed that UML is apolitical when it comes to impeachment.

Similarly, Congress MP Meen Bahadur Bishwakarma suggested that the debate be sped up by studying the impeachment proposal and other documents.

He suggested that because the focus should be on the election in a month, the procedure be designed in such a way that it can be completed quickly.

Similarly, Maoist MP Yasoda Gurung Subedi said that a fair investigation should be conducted on time without any controversy in the committee.

Six months after the impeachment was filed in the House of Representatives, the committee began its work.

The House of Representatives meeting on August 7 referred JB Rana’s impeachment to the recommendation committee.
