BIRATNAGAR: MARCH. 21 – The place where patients lined up at Koshi Hospital on Monday was different from other days. The place that used to be crowded for medicine had become like a place of pain on Monday afternoon.

The hospital had more police than ever before. But they were not able to speak. Carrying Khada (a white garment worn around the neck) in their hands, they had tears in their eyes.

Seeing the state of affairs of the police, who are on duty 24 hours a day, seven days a week with high morale, other people who came to the hospital appeared emotionless. Some claimed that those involved in the incident be severely punished.

The hospital area was stunned when the body was removed from the mortuary after an autopsy. There was a police tribute program at the hospital premises. DIG Arun Kumar BC of the State 1 Police Department arrived to pay his respects with tears in his eyes. Kashiraj Dahal, Chief District Officer of Morang, could not hold back his tears. The situation itself became emotional.

Urmila Shrestha’s body had been kept at the hospital since Sunday at midnight. A local stabbed her to death while she was working to keep peace and security in Letang, Morang. Shrestha’s body will be taken to Udayapur for burial.

Urmila Shrestha of Khotang’s Barahapokhari Rural Municipality-4 was stabbed to death by a local on Sunday evening after she went to the Sikshya Higher Secondary School, Letang Municipality-5, Morang to maintain law and order following an incident involving a teacher (Manoj Poudel) abusing a student studying in class 7. Her body was taken to Koshi Hospital for an autopsy.

Urmila Shrestha was admitted to the Nepal Police on Shrawan 1, 2076 BS (17 July 2019).

Last Baisakh (April/May), Shrestha married Nabin Shrestha, a police constable in the same platoon. Urmila’s brother also works for the Nepal Police.

The attack and stabbing of Nepal Police deployed for peace, which resulted in the death of one person, has sparked widespread outrage. Everyone has called for an impartial investigation into the incident and harsh punishment for the perpetrators.
