Deuba and Prachanda meets: Agreement to hold local elections in April

KATHMANDU: JAN. 17 – Sher Bahadur Deuba, President of the Nepali Congress and Prime Minister, and Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Chairperson of the CPN (Maoist Center), have met. On Monday, the two leaders met at the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar.

According to the Prime Minister’s Secretariat, the meeting focused on local elections. It is said that they have agreed to hold local-level elections in the coming Baisakh (April/May). It has also been decided that the lower level elections would be held on time, as required by the constitution.

It has also been agreed to call a meeting of the High-Level Political Coordination Committee on Tuesday at 9 a.m. to set the date of local elections based on the committee’s recommendations.
