Death by wild elephant attack
CHITWAN: FRIDAY, MAY 14, 2021 – One person has been killed when a wild elephant attacked Ichchanagar in Madi sector of Bagai Madi, a core area of Chitwan National Park. According to Chitwan National Park, Govinda Bahadur Raut, 60, of Thori Rural Municipality-2 of Parsa died in an elephant attack on Thursday.
According to the park, the elephant may have attacked him when he came in contact with the elephant while he was going to pick mushrooms in the park. Information Officer of Chitwan National Park and Assistant Conservation Officer Lokendra Adhikari said that Raut died on the spot. In the current fiscal year 2077/78, 11 people have died due to wildlife attacks in the park and intermediate areas, the official said.
Of those killed by wildlife, three were killed by elephants, officials said. Of those killed, two were attacked by wild elephants and one by a domestic elephant, officials said. Among the other deaths from wildlife attacks were three from tiger attacks, three from rhino attacks and one each from cow and wild boar attacks. The park has also appealed to the people to enter the forest area unnecessarily during the ban imposed by the government to control the Corona Virus. – RSS
