TAPLEJUNG: THURSDAY, MAY 6, 2021 – An agreement has been signed between the Kachanjungha Conservation Area Management Council and the World Wildlife Fund for the conservation of snow Leopards in Taplejung.

The habitat of the snow leopard, one of the rarest wildlife in the world, is within the conservation area. An agreement has been reached to spend Rs 4 million for the conservation of snow leopards, said Khagendra Fembu of the Conservation Area Management Council.

According to the agreement, snow leopard monitoring, snow Leopard food and Bharal monitoring will be spent. It is said that a relief animal insurance program will be launched after the Leopards kill and eat the animals of the Himalayan settlement. It has been mentioned that the amount should be spent by the current fiscal year. Conservation Officer at the Conservation Area Office, Ganesh Prasad Tiwari, said that there are 19 to 24 snow Leopards living in the conservation area.

Tiwari said that it is necessary to protect the snow Leopard along with the snow Leopard as it hunts the Bharal. Chiten Chemjong, program assistant coordinator of four sub-committee councils for snow Leopard conservation, said the management council.
