KATHMANDU: Police in Kathmandu have arrested two individuals accused of vandalising the Hyatt Hotel and looting and setting fire to the Pride Casino during the Gen Z protest. The suspects have been identified as 37-year-old Kuldhwaj Lama, also known as “Kule”, originally from Temal Rural Municipality-8 of Kavre and currently residing in Bouddha, Kathmandu, and 37-year-old Rakesh Lama, also known as “Korean”, from Roshi Rural Municipality-4 of Kavre, who is also living in Bouddha.

According to police, the two men allegedly took part in the violent incident on Sept 9, when protesters vandalised the Hyatt Hotel in Bouddha. During the unrest, the Pride Casino located inside the hotel was reportedly looted and set on fire. A police team deployed from the Kathmandu District Police Office arrested the suspects in Bouddha on Saturday while carrying out a search operation, said SP Pawan Bhattarai, spokesperson for the police office.

Police records show that Kuldhwaj Lama has previously faced five criminal cases, including charges related to public offences and attempted murder. Similarly, Rakesh Lama has seven cases registered against him, including charges of public offences, abduction and hostage-taking, and indecent behaviour, police said. Authorities say further investigation into the incident is ongoing.
