KATHMANDU: Police’s Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) has arrested businessman Shankar Agrawal as part of an ongoing investigation into suspected financial irregularities.

The arrest was confirmed by the secretariat of Home Minister Sudhan Gurung, which stated that Agrawal was taken into custody following the earlier detention of businessman Deepak Bhatta on Thursday.

Police sources said Agrawal and Bhatta are business partners, and transactions between them have raised suspicion, prompting further investigation.

Bhatta was arrested in connection with a money laundering case, after which Agrawal—identified as a key figure in the Shankar Group—was also detained.

According to the Home Minister’s secretariat, a total of 10 individuals have so far been arrested in relation to the case, as authorities intensify efforts to uncover potential financial crimes.
