Western winds bring rain, thunderstorms likely across Nepal

KATHMANDU: Nepal is currently under the influence of western and local winds, along with a low-pressure system near the country’s eastern region, bringing rainfall to several areas, including the Kathmandu Valley.

According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, partly to generally cloudy weather is expected across Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces on Tuesday afternoon, with cloud cover also likely in the hilly and mountainous regions of Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces.

The department said some places in the hilly and mountainous areas of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces could witness moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning.

Similar weather conditions are also likely in a few areas of the Terai region of Madhesh Province and parts of Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces.

Light rain with thunder and lightning is also possible at one or two places in the Terai areas of Lumbini Province. Meanwhile, hot weather conditions are likely to persist in parts of the Terai regions of Lumbini and Sudurpashchim provinces.

The weather office has also forecast chances of strong winds in some parts of Madhesh Province and the Terai regions of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces.

During the night, generally cloudy conditions are expected to continue over the Himalayan regions of Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces.

Partial cloud cover is likely in the hilly regions of Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces, while the Terai areas of Lumbini and Sudurpashchim are expected to remain mostly clear.

The department further said moderate rainfall and snowfall are possible at some places in Koshi and Madhesh provinces and at a few locations in Bagmati and Gandaki provinces.

Light rain and snowfall accompanied by thunder and lightning may also occur in isolated areas of the hilly and mountainous regions of Lumbini and Karnali provinces, as well as the Himalayan region of Sudurpashchim Province.
