Citizens Bank plants 1,500 saplings nationwide on World Environment Day 2026

KATHMANDU: Citizens Bank International Limited has carried out a large-scale tree plantation program under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative at Chaukidanda Tourist Park in Ward No. 1, Budhanilkantha, Kathmandu, on Saturday.

Marking World Environment Day 2026 with the theme “Climate Action”, the bank organized the initiative with the aim of mitigating the growing impacts of climate change by promoting plantation and conservation of trees and plants.

According to the bank, around 250 saplings of various species were planted at Chaukidanda Tourist Park in Budhanilkantha.

In addition, the program was expanded nationwide, where 1,500 saplings were planted across different provinces—200 in Koshi, 250 in Madhesh, 200 in Gandaki, 200 in Lumbini, 200 in Karnali, and 200 in Sudurpashchim Province.

The program was attended by Chief Executive Officer Ganesh Raj Pokharel, Ward No. 1 Chairperson of Budhanilkantha Municipality Surendra Lama, senior management officials, and bank staff members.

Speaking at the event, CEO Pokharel said that every tree planted today will contribute to providing cleaner air, a safer environment, and a healthier life for future generations. He reaffirmed that Citizens Bank has integrated social responsibility as a core part of its institutional culture alongside financial services, and remains committed to continuing initiatives focused on environmental protection, community development, and sustainable growth.

Citizens Bank International Limited, which has recently been recognized with the prestigious Bank of the Year 2024/25 award, has been actively expanding its digital and customer-focused services. The bank recently introduced Nepal’s first virtual credit card in collaboration with Fonepay, titled the Citizens Fonepay Credit Card.

It has also launched youth-focused savings products such as the Citizens Gen-Z Savings Account and the Citizens Digi Bank Service, an integrated online banking platform. Additionally, the bank introduced a special Freelancer Savings Account targeting freelancers.

Among its recent innovations, the bank has enabled mobile banking-based share applications and C-ASBA registration services, along with a cross-bank teller facility that allows customers of other banks to withdraw cash from Citizens Bank branches by scanning a QR code at the teller counter.
