KATHMANDU: A secretary at the Office of the Vice President, Krishna Hari Puskar, was released on Thursday night after being detained for around seven hours by the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office over allegations of sending inappropriate messages.

Puskar was taken into custody from his residence in Kapan, Kathmandu, and questioned after complaints that he had sent allegedly disrespectful SMS messages to a high-ranking official, reportedly in connection with his request for time to meet the Prime Minister.

According to police sources, the messages were considered to be in violation of official decorum.

However, Puskar denied using offensive language, stating that he had only sought an opportunity to meet the Prime Minister after being unable to get an appointment through official channels.

He was released on condition that he would not repeat such actions and was placed under the responsibility of his wife, a government official, as part of the bail arrangement.

The official, who is set to retire on July 8 after completing his five-year tenure, had reportedly been seeking consideration for the post of Chief Secretary before his retirement.

Police said the release was made after questioning and upon assurances that no further such conduct would occur.
