KATHMANDU: Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal is set to depart for an official visit to India on Friday, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The trip, originally scheduled for June 3, was postponed by two days due to technical reasons.

During his visit to New Delhi, Khanal — representing the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP)-led government — is expected to hold high-level talks with Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and other senior officials.

Diplomatic sources say a key focus of the visit will be discussions surrounding a possible trip to India by Prime Minister Balendra “Balen” Shah. The meetings are also expected to address a range of bilateral issues, including cooperation between the two neighbors and longstanding border disputes.

The visit comes amid intensified diplomatic engagement between Kathmandu and New Delhi, following the warm reception extended to an RSP delegation led by party President Rabi Lamichhane in India. The delegation recently met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, signaling renewed momentum in Nepal-India relations.
