KATHMANDU: Renowned Nepali actor Sunil Thapa was cremated today at Pashupati Aryaghat, receiving a final tribute befitting his immense contribution to Nepal’s arts, culture, and film industry.

Thapa, who had an unparalleled career in Nepali cinema, was honored with the national flag draped over his body as senior artists, including Nir Shah, music composer Shambhujeet Baskota, representatives from the Film Development Board, officials from artists’ associations, film industry colleagues, and family members paid their respects.

The veteran actor passed away on Saturday morning due to a heart attack at Norvic International Hospital in Thapathali.

Following a post-mortem at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, Maharajgunj, his body was cremated at Pashupati Aryaghat.

Thapa played memorable roles in dozens of successful films over several decades, significantly elevating the Nepali film industry through his dedication and talent.

Fellow artists described his passing as an irreplaceable loss to Nepali cinema, mourning the departure of a committed and seasoned performer.
