UML replaces Pokharel with Rimal
The decision was made during a secretariat meeting on Tuesday, following a proposal by party Chair KP Sharma Oli.
KATHMANDU: The CPN-UML has removed leader Ishwar Pokharel from his position as head of the Policy and Research Institute, appointing Bishnu Prasad Rimal in his place.
The decision was made during a secretariat meeting on Tuesday, following a proposal by party Chair KP Sharma Oli.
Sources quoted Oli saying, “Bishnu Rimal is a capable person, though he lost the elections. He deserves a responsibility; he cannot be left out.”
Rimal had contested for the position of Deputy General Secretary in the 11th General Convention but was defeated at the central member level.
Despite this, he has now been assigned the role previously held by Pokharel.
Some party officials opposed the move, arguing that with elections approaching, removing Pokharel could harm party unity.
However, Oli remained firm, and the secretariat ultimately approved his proposal.
