UML lawmakers protest remarks against acting CJ in Parliament
KATHMANDU: Lawmakers from ruling CPN-UML staged a protest in Parliament on Monday after members of the opposition Rastriya Swatantra Party questioned the role of Acting Chief Justice Sapana Pradhan Malla.
RSP lawmakers Yagya Mani Neupane and Samikshya Baskota raised concerns over the acting chief justice’s conduct during a parliamentary session, triggering immediate objections from UML lawmakers. Several UML members, including Guru Baral, Ain Mahar and Mohammad Ihtiyaq Rai, stood in protest despite repeated requests from Speaker DP Aryal to take their seats.
As tensions escalated in the chamber, the Speaker allowed UML lawmaker Mahar to address the House. Mahar objected to discussions surrounding a sub judice matter, arguing that lawmakers from the ruling side had made statements undermining the dignity of the judiciary and disrespecting the court.
