Two arrested for assaulting bank employees

KATHMANDU: Police in Saptari have arrested two individuals on charges of indecent behavior, illegal detention, and attempted murder following an attack on employees of Jyoti Bikas Bank.
The incident involved bank staff members Sunit Shrestha and Sabin Kumar Shrestha, who had been deployed from the bank’s Bardibas cluster office for loan recovery.
According to police, the two were abused and physically assaulted over an unpaid loan.
Those arrested are 52-year-old Sanjiv Kumar Chaudhary of Saptakoshi Municipality–7 and 47-year-old Umakant Chaudhary of Agnisair Krishna Sawaran Rural Municipality–1.
Police said the borrowers had failed to repay a loan taken from the bank’s Rupani branch, prompting the bank to initiate recovery procedures.
During this process, at around 3 pm on Mangsir 24, the two bank employees were allegedly surrounded and forcibly taken from the Balaradaha Chowk area along the Kanchanpur–Fatepur road to the premises of Saptakoshi Integrated Agro Farm Pvt Ltd in Saptakoshi Municipality–7.
At the location, the victims were allegedly smeared with black paint, forced to wear a garland of shoes, photographed and filmed, and beaten.
Police also reported that a gold ring weighing 10 annas and a gold chain worn by Sunit Shrestha were looted.
District Police Office Saptari spokesperson and Deputy Superintendent of Police Dambar Bahadur Puri said a formal complaint was filed on Mangsir 29, after which the two suspects were arrested.
The accused have been remanded to five days of custody by the Saptari District Court, and further investigation is being conducted by the Area Police Office, Kanchanpur, under charges related to indecent conduct, illegal detention, and attempted murder, police said.
