Tourist arrivals in Nepal rise by 22% in Aug 2025
In July 2025, Nepal had recorded 70,193 tourist arrivals, indicating a steady upward trend.
KATHMANDU: Nepal welcomed 88,680 foreign tourists in August 2025, marking a 22% increase compared to the same month last year, according to the latest statistics released by the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB).
India remained the largest source market, contributing 35,505 visitors (40%), followed by China with 7,533 (8.5%), the United States with 6,068 (6.8%), Sri Lanka with 5,956 (6.7%), and Bangladesh with 4,262 (4.8%).
From January to August 2025, Nepal received a total of 736,562 tourists. By region, the highest share came from South Asian (SAARC) countries with 47,137 arrivals (53%), followed by other Asian countries with 15,777 (17.8%), Europe with 11,132 (12.6%), Oceania with 2,435 (2.7%), the Americas with 7,293 (8.2%), the Middle East with 944 (1.1%), Africa with 322 (0.4%), and other countries with 3,640 (4.1%).

NTB CEO Deepak Raj Joshi said Nepal’s tourism industry, heavily impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, is gradually recovering. “The addition of Air India Express flights has boosted arrivals from India. We are optimistic that the coming months will see continued growth in tourist arrivals,” he added.
