Thousands of volunteers educate voters to avoid invalid votes

KATHMANDU: The Election Commission of Nepal has announced the deployment of one volunteer per ward across all 6,743 wards in 753 local units to ensure informed voting and reduce invalid ballots in the upcoming House of Representatives election scheduled for Falgun 21.
According to Assistant Spokesperson Kul Bahadur GC, the initiative is part of a special voter education program approved under the Election Education and Voter Awareness Directive, 2078.
From Falgun 3 to 17, the designated volunteers will visit communities and households, using sample ballots to educate citizens about the importance of voting and the proper voting procedures.
The Commission is also preparing to produce and broadcast voter education materials through various media outlets and to engage stakeholders through discussions and interactive programs to enhance awareness.
“The program aims to increase voter participation and significantly reduce the incidence of invalid votes,” the Commission stated. It has called on all seven provincial governments, 753 local units, political parties, candidates, and media organizations to actively support, coordinate, and facilitate the initiative.
