KATHMANDU: The Government of Nepal has announced a budget of Rs 1.964 trillion (Rs 19 kharba 64 arba 11 crore) for the upcoming fiscal year 2082/83.

The budget prioritizes entrepreneurship, job creation, increased production and productivity, investment in high-return and quality physical infrastructure, qualitative improvements in the social sector, balanced development, social security assurance, citizen-friendly services, anti-corruption measures, and governance reforms.
A total of Rs 109 billion has been allocated for social security programs.
The government plans to integrate scattered social security initiatives and gradually make the National Identity Card mandatory for access to these services.
Minister Paudel announced that elderly citizens will receive national identity cards through mobile outreach teams, and the eligibility age for old-age allowance will remain at 70 years.
