Earlier, South Africa posted 489 in their first innings. In reply, India managed only 201, avoiding the follow-on but conceding a huge deficit.
The visitors then declared their second innings at 260/5, setting India an improbable target.
South Africa had won the first Test by 30 runs, and this series triumph marks their first Test series win on Indian soil in 25 years, making the victory even more historic.
