KATHMANDU: Snakebite incidents are on the rise across the Terai–Madhesh region, with an increasing number of patients seeking treatment at hospitals.
According to the Provincial Hospital in Janakpurdham, five to six snakebite patients are being admitted daily.
Dr. Ujwal Jha, head of the hospital’s emergency department, reported that 1,115 patients have visited the hospital with snakebite cases since Chaitra 2080.
Among them, 60 cases have been confirmed as venomous bites.
Thanks to timely hospital visits, the snakebite-related death rate has declined. However, seven people have still lost their lives due to snakebites at the hospital during this period, Dr. Jha informed.
Health workers have urged people to remain cautious during the monsoon and summer seasons, and to immediately seek treatment at the nearest health facility in case of a snakebite.
