KATHMANDU: The meeting of the House of Representatives briefly turned tense on Monday after lawmakers from the Shram Sanskriti Party surrounded the well of the House and staged a placard protest at the very start of the session.

The protesting MPs, including party chair Harka Sampang, displayed placards with slogans calling for “prime minister’s accountability to parliament.”

The lawmakers briefly held up the placards before returning to their seats, though they continued to wear them on their chests.

Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal objected to the demonstration inside the House, stating that displaying placards in this manner is not a recognized parliamentary practice and goes against the decorum of the legislature.

He also issued a warning, urging lawmakers not to repeat such actions in future sessions.
