KATHMANDU: The Shram Sanskriti Party has demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Balen Shah, objecting to his recent remarks on the Nepal–India border dispute.

Speaking at a protest gathering held at Shanti Batika in Kathmandu on Tuesday, party leaders strongly criticized the Prime Minister’s statement made in the House of Representatives, where he said that Nepal had also encroached on Indian territory.

Addressing the event, party leader Santosh Rai accused Shah of hurting the sentiments of Nepali citizens and undermining national pride through his comments. He argued that the statement had damaged Nepal’s sovereignty, national dignity, and the self-respect of patriotic citizens.

Rai also pointed out what he described as a contradiction in Shah’s stance, noting that during his tenure as Kathmandu Metropolitan City mayor, he had displayed a map of Greater Nepal in his office, while now expressing a different position as Prime Minister.

“We strongly object to the Prime Minister’s statement that Nepal has also encroached on India’s territory,” Rai said. “Such remarks have lowered the heads of Nepali citizens. He must either publicly apologize or step down from his position.”

Prime Minister Shah’s remarks, delivered during Sunday’s parliamentary session, have sparked political controversy. Opposition parties have since been obstructing meetings of the Federal Parliament in protest over the statement.
