KATHMANDU: Secretary of the National Sports Council (NSC), Tanka Lal Ghising, has claimed that he fulfilled his commitment to streamline Nepal’s sports federations, reducing their number from 209 to 63.
Speaking at a farewell program in Kathmandu on Friday, Ghising said that during his four-year tenure, elections were successfully conducted in more than 50 active sports organizations, marking the highest number of sports elections in the history of Nepal.
“I had committed to streamlining 209 national sports federations. Today, 63 remain, and I appreciate the contributions of everyone involved in this process,” he said. “If there is any tenure with the highest number of elections in Nepal’s sports history, it would probably be mine. I congratulate all sports officials who participated in organizing elections in over 50 federations.”
Ghising also expressed his intention to remain involved in future debates regarding the restructuring of Nepal’s sports sector and resolving related disputes.
During the program, athletes under the Mission 2026 special training initiative were presented with sports kits.
