SCT & CityTech forge strategic partnership to revolutionize digital payments

KATHMANDU: SmartChoice Technologies (SCT) has entered a strategic partnership with CityTech Group Pvt. Ltd. to enhance the digital payment ecosystem in Nepal.

The collaboration aims to strengthen and modernize payment acceptance systems, making them more efficient, secure, and scalable.

Under the partnership, CityTech’s FinPOS hardware will integrate SCT’s platform, enabling merchants to accept digital payments via multiple card schemes—including Visa, UnionPay, NepalPay—and through SmartQr for dynamic QR payments.

This integration will provide banks and merchants with advanced, user-friendly, and scalable POS solutions.

The collaboration allows banks, financial institutions, and payment service providers interested in POS acquiring to benefit from SCT’s robust payment infrastructure without the need for separate card scheme memberships, technology investments, or security certifications. This makes the solution financially advantageous for participating institutions.

SCT continues its commitment to expanding the reach of digital payments and promoting innovation in Nepal.

The partnership with FinPOS marks a significant step toward realizing this goal.

Currently, SCT issues SCT-UnionPay cards through 24 banks, financial institutions, and over 100 cooperatives, while also providing card services for VISA, RuPay, MasterCard, and Discover through its proprietary Smart Switch infrastructure.

For more than two decades, SCT has been delivering secure, simple, and reliable payment services across Nepal, establishing itself as the country’s first domestic card scheme.

Beyond cards, SCT offers Smart QR, Smart Pay (IBFT), and Smart Banking mobile banking services to numerous banks and financial institutions, reinforcing its role as a leader in Nepal’s digital payment landscape.
