KATHMANDU: After being closed due to the recent unrest in the country, schools within Kathmandu Metropolitan City will resume classes from Monday.

The Education Department of the Metropolitan City has directed all schools to begin physical classes, accompanied by psychosocial counseling.

According to Keshav Gyawali, Acting Head of the Education Department, schools and teachers have been asked to start necessary preparations from today (Sunday).

This includes assessing any damages to school infrastructure, contacting parents to understand the condition of students, and ensuring a safe environment for children to return to school.

Placing special emphasis on children’s mental health, the Metropolitan City has instructed schools to prioritize psychosocial counseling in the initial phase.

Authorities believe this step will play a crucial role in helping students recover from the difficult circumstances they have recently experienced.

Additionally, parents have been requested to assist their children in commuting to and from schools until the situation fully normalizes.

For students whose parents are unable to manage transportation, schools have been advised to provide online classes as an alternative.

Schools had remained closed since Bhadra 23 and 24 due to the nationwide unrest.

The Metropolitan City hopes that reopening schools with supportive measures will minimize the impact of the prolonged closure on children’s learning and help them return to regular studies.
