Human Trafficking Act Amendment process began already: Minister Badi
Minister Badi said the government is moving ahead with legal reforms aimed at strengthening protection for women and vulnerable groups.
KATHMANDU: Minister for Women, Children and Sexual Minorities and Social Security, Sita Badi, has said that the process to amend the Human Trafficking and Transportation Control Act, 2064 has already begun.
Responding to lawmakers’ questions during Wednesday’s House of Representatives meeting on her ministry’s budget allocation, Minister Badi said the government is moving ahead with legal reforms aimed at strengthening protection for women and vulnerable groups.
She also announced that the government plans to introduce an integrated law against gender-based violence, ensuring strict legal action against all forms of abuse against women, along with provisions for victim compensation and justice.
According to her, any form of violence against women—whether rooted in religious, social, cultural practices or other grounds—will be made clearly punishable under law.
The proposed framework aims to guarantee legal accountability for physical, mental, sexual, psychological, and other forms of abuse or exploitation.
The minister further informed Parliament that an Integrated Service Access Programme for preventing and responding to gender-based violence will be launched in 12 local levels in the coming fiscal year, supported by a World Bank grant.
She added that the government is also prioritizing public awareness campaigns to help prevent violence against women and strengthen community-level response mechanisms.
