RSP’s Khanal accuses govt of threatening democracy, justice, and media freedom
Speaking at Tuesday’s meeting of the House of Representatives, Khanal claimed that the government itself is putting the democratic system at risk.
KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Shishir Khanal has accused the government of tailoring laws to its own advantage, curbing judicial independence, and attempting to control the media.
Speaking at Tuesday’s meeting of the House of Representatives, Khanal claimed that the government itself is putting the democratic system at risk.
He cited controversies ranging from the “Visit Nepal” scandal to alleged collusion in passport printing, misuse of the “cooling period” provision, and ongoing irregularities at Tribhuvan International Airport, accusing both parliament and the government of indifference.
Khanal urged Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to read the book How Democracies Die and to reflect on his government’s actions over the past year.
He reiterated his party’s stance that ministers involved in corruption should not remain in office and stressed the RSP’s commitment to ensuring good governance.
“What does the Prime Minister actually want?” Khanal questioned, asserting that his party’s goal is to see good governance prevail in the country.
