KATHMANDU: The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has proposed a strict new statute aimed at completely eliminating family-based favoritism and nepotism within the party structure.

According to the draft statute prepared by a task force led by Co-General Secretary Bipin Kumar Acharya and circulated among central committee members, individuals from the same family will no longer be allowed to serve simultaneously in the same level of party committees, departments, commissions, or other organizational bodies through appointment, nomination, or election.

The proposed provision further states that members of central and provincial committees will be barred from recommending or facilitating appointments or nominations of their family members to any party position or to state institutions on behalf of the party.

The statute also clearly defines “family,” covering an extensive list of relations including spouses, parents, children, siblings, grandparents, in-laws, and extended relatives such as uncles, aunts, cousins, and their spouses.

Beyond anti-nepotism measures, the draft emphasizes that the party will be guided by core democratic values, good governance, transparency, and equal opportunity. It further proposes that all party structures, procedures, and policies must operate in line with these principles.

The RSP says the move is intended to institutionalize internal discipline, ensure fairness, and promote merit-based opportunities across all levels of the organization.
