KATHMANDU: Krishna Kumar Karki has denied knowledge of allegations that he impregnated and abandoned a foreign woman, as the controversy surrounding the Rastriya Swatantra Party lawmaker escalated on Tuesday.

Speaking to reporters outside Parliament, Karki repeatedly said he was unaware of the claims.

As journalists continued questioning him, Karki lifted his coat and T-shirt, exposing his chest, and asked reporters whether they could see any tattoo marks, apparently challenging evidence linked to the allegations.

“Do you see any tattoo?” he asked.

Karki said the matter should be investigated and insisted accusations must be backed by proof. He also claimed he had not been in Nepal since 2067 B.S.

The controversy had earlier reached Parliament after the issue was raised during Tuesday’s House meeting. Karki also denied reports that he had signed up to speak during the zero hour session, saying his name appeared unexpectedly.

After speaking briefly with reporters, he left the Parliament premises on a motorcycle.
