RSP MP calls for mandatory Nepali product sections at TIA shops
Shrestha stressed that thousands of international passengers departing daily from Nepal should be introduced to authentic Nepali taste, craftsmanship, and locally produced goods.
KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Anushka Shrestha has called on the government to ensure that all shops at Tribhuvan International Airport are required to allocate dedicated space for Nepali-made products, aiming to strengthen domestic industries and promote national identity.
Speaking during the zero hour of the House of Representatives meeting on Tuesday, Shrestha stressed that thousands of international passengers departing daily from Nepal should be introduced to authentic Nepali taste, craftsmanship, and locally produced goods.
She argued that the airport represents a key opportunity to project Nepal’s cultural identity globally, stating that “Made in Nepal” products should be prominently featured in all retail outlets and tender processes within the airport.
“The presence of Nepali taste, handicrafts, and ‘Made in Nepal’ products at our international airport is still weak. As thousands of travelers depart every day, sending them with local products is an opportunity to promote Nepal’s identity worldwide,” she said.
She further urged authorities managing Rastriya Swatantra Party and airport operations to prioritize small and domestic entrepreneurs by creating dedicated sections for locally produced goods, emphasizing that such measures could significantly boost Nepal’s global market presence.
