RSP leader held for involvement in fake academic certificate scam

KATHMANDU: Rupandehi police have arrested a leader of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) for alleged involvement in a fake academic certificate racket.
The arrested individual has been identified as Hariprasad Kandel, the Bagmati Province Training Department Coordinator of RSP.
Kandel, a resident of Padampur-5, Kalika Municipality, Chitwan, was apprehended from Chitwan on Thursday and brought to Rupandehi, according to District Police Chief SP Pradeep Kshetri.
Earlier, on Shrawan 30, Rupandehi police had arrested an Indian national from Hotel Muktinath near Belahiya Bus Park.
During preliminary investigations, the individual stated that he had been working for Kandel, prompting the police to detain the RSP leader.
Kandel, a former teacher, was running an educational consultancy named “College Coach Nepal Pvt. Ltd.” at Lions Chowk, Chitwan.
According to the police, through this institution, he was allegedly producing fake certificates from various universities in Nepal and India and sending them abroad.
Investigations also revealed that he was preparing to send students to Malta under the scheme.
