KATHMANDU: Rupandehi-3 is set to hold a by-election for the House of Representatives on Kartik 17, and the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has intensified and refined its candidate selection process.

A team of the party’s top leaders arrived in Bhairahawa to conduct a thorough assessment of nine aspirants who have applied for candidacy.

The evaluations took place at a special discussion program, dubbed the “Candidate Bench,” held at Ramada Hotel, where the aspirants participated in panel discussions with senior leaders, including Co-General Secretary Bipin Acharya, Party Spokesperson and MP Manish Jha, MP and former Education Minister Shishir Khanal, and MP Prof. Dr. Chanda Karki.

To further strengthen the selection process, Party Vice-Chairperson and MP Dr. Swarnim Wagle will hold individual “one-on-one” discussions with each applicant. These sessions aim to meticulously evaluate the aspirants’ subject knowledge, presentation skills, and leadership abilities.

According to RSP, the primary goal of this rigorous process is not merely to select a candidate but to assess the depth of the aspirants’ understanding of the Constitution, current national challenges, political environment, local issues, parliamentary practices, and public concerns.

The Rupandehi-3 seat fell vacant following the death of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) MP Deepak Bohara, who won the 2079 election.

In that election, RSP’s candidate had finished third.

This time, the party appears determined to secure a strong candidate through an organized and intellectual selection process to improve its chances of winning the by-election.
