RPP MP Karki demands probe into visit visa abuse, questions govt accountability (video)
Karki also strongly objected to the government’s inaction regarding the misuse of visit visas.
KATHMANDU: Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) lawmaker Roshan Karki has raised serious concerns over the government’s accountability towards the Parliament, stating that current practices suggest the reverse—where the Parliament appears accountable to the government instead.
Speaking at Wednesday’s meeting of the House of Representatives, Karki questioned, “Is the government accountable to the Parliament, or is the Parliament accountable to the government?” She criticized what she called a troubling trend of government disregard for parliamentary oversight.
Karki also strongly objected to the government’s inaction regarding the misuse of visit visas.
She clarified that her party is not against visit visas themselves, but firmly opposes the illegal activities—such as human trafficking and abuse—being conducted under the guise of such visas.
Highlighting the gravity of the situation, she remarked that thousands of Nepali women have fallen victim to sexual abuse abroad, while many men have returned in coffins. “Does the Home Minister not feel any remorse?” she asked emotionally.
In light of these issues, she demanded the formation of a parliamentary investigation committee to probe the misuse of visit visas and ensure accountability.
