KATHMANDU: Kolkata Knight Riders edged out Lucknow Super Giants in a dramatic Super Over clash in the Indian Premier League on Sunday, after both sides were tied at 155 runs in regulation play.
The match went down to the wire as Kolkata held their nerve in the Super Over, with Rinku Singh delivering a match-winning performance.
Batting first, Kolkata posted 155/7 in their 20 overs, recovering from a difficult position thanks to Rinku’s unbeaten 83 off 51 balls — his highest score in T20 cricket.
He turned the game around in the final over, smashing four consecutive sixes off Digvesh Rathi to push his team to a competitive total.
Lucknow’s bowling was led by Mohsin Khan, who produced a brilliant spell, taking 5 wickets for just 23 runs in four overs. However, his effort ultimately went in vain.
Chasing 156, Lucknow finished on 155/8, with Rishabh Pant scoring 42 and Aiden Markram adding 31. The match was forced into a Super Over after Mohammed Shami struck a six off the final ball to level the scores.
In the Super Over, Sunil Narine delivered a match-defining spell, removing Nicholas Pooran on the first ball, while Markram was also dismissed under pressure.
Chasing a small target, Rinku sealed the victory in style, hitting a boundary off the first delivery from Prince Yadav to hand Kolkata a thrilling win.
